EMDR in DID
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR):
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy, or more commonly known as EMDR Therapy, is a popular treatment used in psychotherapy to prevent and mitigate the distress caused by patients’ traumatic memories. EMDR Therapy has been very successful and showed fruitful results by relieving the distress and suffering of patients. Studies and Research have shown that EMDR therapy effectively enables people to experience benefits by alleviating their distress.
Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID):
Previously known as Multiple Personality Disorder, Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is a common psychiatric disorder that affects many people. The patients suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) experience loss of memory and sense of their personality, and they also exhibit traits and behaviors of multiple characters. Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) may affect 1-3% of the general population.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID):
Although Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy was initially developed and used for the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), it has widely been used for the treatment of other psychiatric disorders such as Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) as well. EMDR in DID has shown promising results as after successful treatments, patients’ negative thoughts and beliefs were reconstructed, and their distress was mitigated.
Benefits of EMDR in DID:
Our treatments of EMDR in DID have been very effective and have yielded desired results. Specifically, the patients who received EMDR in DID were satisfied with the treatment and claimed that their traumatic memories, which caused them extreme distress, have changed and become less intimidating and upsetting. Moreover, the patients also report that EMDR in DID has significantly reduced their symptoms and feel more content.
